Why Are Mushrooms Popular in Skincare These Days?

I am a pretty traditional person when it comes to my skincare routine, and this emerging trend has definitely caught me by surprise! Although Mushrooms have been around for over a billion years and have been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for centuries, the use of mushroom as part of mainstream skincare products is pretty new to me.

Mushrooms first made a mainstream appearance in skincare back in 2005 when Dr. Andrew Weil teamed up with Origins to create a lotion packed with fungi. Fast forward nearly two decades, and mushrooms are a common ingredient in cosmetics, face masks, serums, and more.

And let me tell you, It’s not just indie brands hopping on the mushroom train either – big-name companies are getting in on the trend too!

Here Are Some Facts About How Can Mushrooms Benefit the Skin?

  • Anti-inflammatory - mushrooms are rich in polysaccharides, which have anti-inflammatory and hydrating properties that can help soothe and plump the skin.

  • Improve the skin's elasticity -they also contain beta-glucans, which can stimulate collagen production and improve the skin's elasticity.

  • Mushrooms are packed with antioxidants - that can help protect the skin from free radical damage and premature aging.

  • Promote cell turnover - they contain natural enzymes that can gently exfoliate the skin and promote cell turnover, revealing a brighter and more even complexion.

  • Immune-boosting properties - some mushrooms, like shiitake and reishi, are known for their immune-boosting properties and can help strengthen the skin's barrier function.

  • Regulate sebum production - Mushroom extracts can also help regulate sebum production, making them a great ingredient for those with oily or acne-prone skin.

  • They are gentle and non-irritating, making them suitable for all skin types.

I Had to Try This Trend Myself

I was skeptical at first, but I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by the results!

KORA Organics Milky Mushroom Oil Cleanser

This Milky Mushroom Gentle Cleansing Oil, along with a few other products from the line I'm also trying now for the first time, is my formal introduction to the KORA Organics brand. As someone with sensitive skin, I was hesitant to try an oil cleanser, but this one is gentle and nourishing. It leaves my skin feeling soft and hydrated without stripping it of its natural oils. Highly recommend!

Hydrating Face Mask Skin Care with Probiotic & Mushroom Essence

Sheet face mask that promised to detoxify and purify the skin. The mask left my skin feeling deeply cleansed and left a noticeable glow. I don't think there is much different from other good face masks, but this one is sure to be a product i will buy again.

Give it a try!

Summary - hard to beat! - I recommend giving mushroom-infused skincare products a try – they may just become your new go-to for achieving healthy, radiant skin.
